Your Role In A GOTV Campaign

Why Vote?

On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, Americans will go to the polls to elect their president for the next four years. There is no better time to express your voice through voting than now. Other than it being your constitutional right as an American, voting is your opportunity to let legislators know whether you approve or disapprove of the way they represent your views.

In addition to the highly anticipated presidential campaign, control of the U.S. Congress will be decided in November as well. All 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and roughly a third of the 100 U.S. Senate seats will be contested in this election. 13 governorships and many state and local elections will also be held on November 6.

Your vote, and that of your co-workers, on November 6 is important as it will help determine the future of America!  Your role as an HR professional and as a registered voter in this process is threefold;

  • First it is extremely important to ENCOURAGE your employees and others to vote. By stressing the importance of voting and encouraging participation you help in the process. Not only does this affect the HR profession but everyone’s daily life. It is important that everyone has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
  • Secondly, EDUCATION is the key to becoming an informed voter. Providing your employee, co-worker, family and friends with information to allow them to understand the impact of their vote and the effect it will have on their everyday lives is very important.
  • Finally, ENERGIZING others is essential to achieving greater turnout this November. Energize others to take ownership of what is going on in their community. Let others know what is at stake and encourage them to make a difference in November.
